About this home

Attention artists and creative-types! Just 12 miles from the Wimberley Square, this eclectic home is ready for the next visionary! Built by hand using sustainable methods, the property offers an opportunity to create a unique short-term rental, weekend getaway, or smaller full-time home. This southwestern-style structure is a rare true straw bale home clad in stucco with 22-inch thick walls, providing an insulation R-value estimated at R-30. A metal roof provides durability and protection in extreme weather. Much of the home features reclaimed elements including transom windows, hand-built doors crafted from vintage wood, and pressed metal ceilings. A real wood-burning stove adds to the charm in the winter. The home is positioned far off the road on 4.44 acres adjacent to a permanent watershed where nothing can be built. To the west is a large ranch with cattle and exotics, which can often be viewed near the fence. The lot is wooded with a variety of native tree species including Texas live oaks, ashe junipers, red oaks, Texas persimmons, Texas redbuds, and even has peach trees in the garden area. Native fauna you may see on the land includes jackrabbits, whitetail deer, foxes, raccoons, wild turkeys, hawks, owls, and a number of songbird species. Behind the house is a 480 square foot metal workshop that is currently being used by the owner for woodworking and other creative projects. Add solar to this home and you could be living totally off grid, as the property operates on a rainwater capture system with UV disinfection and two-stage water filtration. Burnett Ranch also offers a beautiful private park on the Blanco River for owners (small annual fee required) which has a deep area for swimming year round, as well as fishing along the banks of the river. Imagine sitting on the porch watching the sunset and wildlife, whether you choose to live here full time or visit between STR guests! This is the peace and quiet so many people are desiring.
